VISITORS / VOLUNTEERS CODE OF CONDUCT FOR THE PROTECTION OF CHILDREN at the MAJENGO CHILDREN’S HOME (“MAJENGO”)
PROCEDURES FOR VISITORS
All visits will take place during working hours from 8am to 6pm.
All visitors to the Majengo facility will be accompanied by a relevant Majengo staff member. A visitor will never be alone with a child
A visitor will not take any photo or record a video with children without consent from the Majengo Secretary.
Permitted photos or videos must not be used for fundraising purposes without consent of the Children’s Home; commercial use is strictly forbidden .
RESPECTING MAJENGO CHILDREN
All Majengo children are to be treated in a loving and nurturing way, with care and respect. More specifically, a visitor will treat all children in an egalitarian way, respecting and valuing their views, comments and skills. A visitor will not comment on the language or cultural values of children. Tanzania has more than 130 ethnic tribes and local vernacular, unique and particular to different areas, but all are united with one national language which is Swahili. A visitor will inquire about the appropriate ways to address the children, to ensure the use of culturally sensitive greetings.
MAJENGO CHILDREN’S PRIVACY
A visitor will not ask a child questions about his or her background. For example, a visitor will not ask about a child’s history, medical condition or family background.
A visitor will not comment in any way on the status of the family of the child.
A visitor will neither ask for, nor take note of, the address of a child or their family and will not give his or her address to a child or family.
GIFTS TO THE MAJENGO CHILDREN
A visitor will not give any sort of gift including cash, sweets, candy, food to a child or family without the consent of the Majengo Secretary.
A visitor will not make any promises to the children.
Any visitor asked to leave the Majengo premises and not return, will do so immediately, without requesting an explanation for the request.
Any form of physical abuse of a child by any visitor constitutes an act of gross misconduct and the person will be held liable for such behaviour.
Visitors desiring to return to Majengo must not do so voluntarily without approval and permission of ICA Tanzania, Majengo Canada or Warren Majengo Foundation.
VISITOR’S SIGNUP SHEET
All visitors must have permission to visit either from the Majengo Children’s home secretary, ICA Tanzania, Majengo Canada or the Warren Majengo Foundation.
All visitors must sign this Visitor’s Policy sheet and provide a copy to the organization which gave permission before visiting the Majengo Children’s Home.
